movie reviews

Watched quite a few movies this week, namely The Promise; The Chronicles of Narnia: the l, w and wr; and Perhaps Love. Oh, and King Kong in KL. OK, shall give brief comments on each.

The Promise: turned out to be more of a comedy than some sophisticated show. But it's not a total comedy lah. There's some Buddhist type of philosophy in it.

The Chronicles of Narnia: It's quite a heartwarming show. Basically, I'm probably biased due to the snow and the white colour throughout this film ;p So sad they have to portray winter in such a way such that winter indicates that some evil force is reigning over Narnia. The biblical parallels in C.S. Lewis' work are definitely quite strong.

Perhaps Love: I don't understand why the director insisted that this is not like Moulin Rouge. His reason was that in this movie, the plot was carried out through script lines, unlike Moulin Rouge which based itself on lyrics. But I see that in Perhaps Love, the plot was carried out through lyrics as well as script lines. Anyway, even if I were to give it a fair critique on its own, hmm...hehe...Takeshi Kaneshiro's quite cute (tho' i think he looks better in interviews than in the movie) But the music part was bad. Only Jacky Cheung was slightly more OK. The theme of memory is interesting and I like it when the characters move on in life though they still remember each other. Maybe this is what we are all doing in life :)

King Kong: Not as bad as I thought it to be. Haha, for those who know me, I'm not really a blockbuster type of person. I think the relationship between King Kong and the female protaganist is worth exploring since there's a parallel between that and the earthly romantic relationship. But not much brains to think about it now.

Overall, these four movies are average, though I'm glad to see Perhaps Love so that I can comment on its semblance/non-semblance to Moulin Rouge. Of cos' i do enjoy the company i had for these movies too :)
