Memoirs of a Geisha and others

Finally i got to watch the film Memoirs of a Geisha. Was glad to find the film better than the reviews of many movie-goers. My personal take on it is that if one wishes to know about the life of a geisha, watching the film is definitely not adequate (neither is reading the book alone). I think it's also unfair to expect the film to portray the life of a geisha in about 2.5 hours? Anyway, maybe cos' i knew the plot, I paid more attention to other elements of the film. I liked the cinematography of the film. The takes were very well done, and so were the sound effects which complemented them. As for the acting, once again, Gong Li stole the show though she was not the first female lead.

Had a conversation with my friend about networking and marketing oneself. It's true that those who are famous and make it big in life are not the ones who are truly the most talented but rather those with the right contacts and those who know how to make an impression on others. It's sad but it's a fact of life. I wonder if it conflicts with our values. Sigh. Well, I guess the only resolution is to work on both talent and networking and seek a balance for yourself. Afterall, one does not live nor die alone.
